ResumoThe present study are the rarely reported observations of sporadic sodium layer (SSL) detected by an all-sky system with a narrow sodium filter, operating at Cachoeira Paulista (22.7° S, 45.0° W) and lidar observations of the mesospheric sodium layer, operating at São José dos Campos (23.1° S, 45.9° W), both observatories in Brazil. The all-sky images events and sodium data presented here were taken from March, 2013 to June 2014. During this period, the all-sky images showed 18 fast events of SSL that were seen for about 10 minutes through the images in the NaD 589 nm emission. A fundamental question with respect to SSL is whether they represent additional sodium, or whether they are the result of a redistribution of the regular layer. In this study, important features from these observations are presented and discussed.
